General Functions:

Under cooperative development fund project, IOM aims to contribute to the promotion of sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth for refugees and host communities in Türkiye. To contribute towards this objective, IOM proposes to provide integrated livelihoods and protection support through financial assistance to an estimated 30 cooperatives employing 20 women each, thus facilitating access to sustainable employment for 600 women. The project will create employment opportunities and ensure improved access to financial services, therefore empowering the women to build better futures for themselves and their families.

The main outcome of the project will be to strengthen business and trade competitiveness of agriculture cooperatives established in Turkey in identified geographic locations to address job creation and stimulate entrepreneurship opportunities for the target beneficiaries.

IOM will focus on cooperative development of at least registered 30 agricultural cooperatives

Under the overall management of the recovery and stabilization officer and project support officer, the business development Consultant (NC) will have the following duties and responsibilities:

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Task 1

Strategic orientation and leadership;

The consultant shall work together with the cooperative on:

  • Diagnosing the cooperative and the impacts of Covid 19 and producing a short term crisis management action plan
  • Producing a strategic orientation.
  • Getting the strategic orientation validated by the cooperative before proceeding with the market research.
  • Updating the strategic orientation based on market research data and have it validated a last time.
  • Producing a market research to substantiate the strategic orientation. Online tools taught during the training programme such as TradeMap, Market Access Map, Export Potential Map, Alexia, etc. shall be used.
  • Transmitting knowledge and skills to the cooperative on how to carry out basic market research and using key tools

Task 2

Brand identity:

The consultant shall work together with the cooperative on:

  • Exploring the values of the cooperative and propose a write up of the values for display on the cooperative’s website.
  • Defining the brand personality of the brand,
  • Designing logo brief, slogan brief, story brief and brand name briefs, when required except the story brief which is mandatory,
  • Defining a compelling brand story to be including on the cooperative’s website, brochures, and leveraging the services of ITC’s partner,
  • For the logo, the consultant may the services of crowd design companies such as www.99designs.com or www.designcrowd.com, as part of a separate offer whereby the consultant may decide to charge an additional fee for his/her services on top of the logo design service.
  • For the slogan and brand name, the consultant may come up with his/her original ideas, leveraging input provided by the cooperative , or use the services of crowd design companies such as www.namingforce.org, www.crowdspring.com, www.squadhelp.com, www.inkandkey.com.
  • Getting the brand briefs reviewed and validated by the cooperative, when these briefs are required by the cooperative, except for the brand story brief which is mandatory to get validated by the cooperative.

Distribution strategy and plan;

The consultant shall work together with the cooperative on:

  • Producing a distribution strategy by evaluating the capabilities of the business against the designed strategy.
  • Providing advice on eCommerce, including online marketplaces and how to get online.
  • Getting the distribution strategy and pricing plan reviewed and validated by the cooperative.
  • Defining a pricing strategy based on the segments previously defined (price levels and price ranges) and defining prices for a selection of products using market research tools,
  • Getting the pricing strategy and pricing plan reviewed and validated by the cooperative.

Customer service; The consultant shall run some customer service-related simulations/tests (best if anonymous) and issue recommendations to the cooperative further the tests.

Task 3

Sales plan;

The consultant shall work together with the cooperative on defining a sales strategy and sales plan.

Communication plan;

The consultant shall work together with the cooperative on:

  • Assisting them with setting up Google Ads and Facebook Ads communication campaigns;
  • Defining a communication strategy

Negotiations;

The consultant shall work with the cooperative on defining a cultural profile of the targeted markets/countries leveraging the information provided by the platform Nomad Network, comparing Turkish business style with other countries’ business styles.

Task 4

Marketing and business plan:

The consultant shall work together with the cooperativeon:

  • Preparing a marketing and business plan following the format which is an aggregate of all previously collected information in a prosaic format, in addition to basic financial information,
  • Assisting them in presenting and pitching their business plan to potential financial institutions and funders, and coaching them with their oral presentation,
  • Advising them in finding the right sources of funding available in Turkey.

Expected Outputs and Timelines

The cooperative shall be assisted for 10 months . The consultancy will consists of a total of 32 hours of consultancy and 16 hours of reporting for each cooperative that will be mentored. The consultant will plan filed visits, timetable with the cooperative representatives and share the respective timeline with the Project team. Consultant and the cooperative representative need to meet at least 2 hours every week which will be reported to IOM.

Consultant will be following the revised format and guidelines of the previous programme provided by IOM.

Deliverables

  • Interim reports at the end of the each month of the consultancy including the details/progress for the 6 assigned companies;
  • Final report and presentation at the end of the 10th month for each cooperative;
  • Participation in the kick-off meeting to be held in the beginning of project.
  • Participation in planning meetings to be held by IOM if needed.

Travel: No travel is foreseen under the terms of the contract. In case of any travel, the payments will belong to the consultant.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree (BA/BSC or other)
  • Degree in Management, Marketing, Economics, Entrepreneurship,
  • Finance/Accounting, Coaching Extensive relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the university degree.

Experience & Skills:

  • At least 2 years of experience in Management, Marketing, Economics, Finance/Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Coaching, Training
  • Having been selected and trained by ITC throughout the Entrepreneurship Coaching and Training Programme (ETCP)
  • Strategy, Marketing, Business planning
  • Planning, documentation and report writing
  • Familiarity and competence with office tools, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Interviewing and writing short articles about the project, activities and impact on beneficiaries for an external audience
  • Evidence of having led and managed training sessions, or similar
  • Intellectual curiosity, willingness to learn and apply learning
  • Ability to present ideas and to train others

Languages:

  • English: Fluent spoken and written (mandatory)
  • Turkish: Good spoken and written (mandatory)
  • Arabic: Good spoken and written (desirable)
